At Samsara, we understand the importance of wellness and healthy eating. Our team strives to provide their families with fresh, tasty and balanced meals every night, however, we know that meal planning isn’t always the easiest. Planning meals doesn’t have to be a chore, but there are many benefits to it, such as fewer trips to get last minute groceries, more variety, more nutritious meals and an overall calmer, happier and healthier household. So, let’s dive into it.
Here Are Three Family Friendly Meal Planning Hacks:
- Bulk Cook The Basics
Speed up dinner and simplify meal prep by bulk cooking all of your basics ahead of time! Quinoa and rice are fine to keep in the fridge for 4-6 days. Chicken can be cooked and stay delicious for 2-3 days giving you the flexibility to reheat and spice as needed without the additional cook time each evening when you’d rather be out for a bike ride.
- Embrace Themed Nights
We all appreciate variety in our meals - while your kids may enjoy chicken and rice every night, but it’s fun and important for them to taste different things. You can change up spices and sides to keep things ‘fresh’ but save yourself the prep of cooking everything from scratch each night if you can draw from the bulk items that you cook up on Sunday or Monday night.
Meatless Monday is always a great option, try a garden salad or chop up some tofu to create a stir fry. Taco Tuesday is one of our team’s favourite things to do because it allows each family member to choose their own adventures and can appease even the pickiest of eaters! It’s fun, fast and fantastic!
- Stick To The Schedule
Meal planning is often not top of mind and can easily be forgotten about. Make it obvious for your family by purchasing a vibrant, weekly meal planner that can be stuck on the fridge. Planning ahead of time means that you avoid the last minute stress!
If your kids are of an appropriate age, we often suggest to add a space where they can sign up to assist in making one of the weekly meals, getting them involved and excited about recipes can definitely pay off and make the experience more enjoyable for everyone.
Here is a quick example:
Monday: Meatless Monday, Mixed Vegetable Pasta
Tuesday: Taco Tuesday
Wednesday: Stir Fry with Soy Tofu
Thursday: Quinoa with Steamed Veggies and Chicken Breast
Friday: Homemade Pizza
Saturday: Dinner Out!
Food brings people together on many different levels - ask for favorite recipes from friends and work colleagues; chances are they're doing at least one genius thing to make their meal prep lives just a little bit simpler that they’d love to share with you!
We hope that you enjoyed learning these simple, family-friendly meal planning hacks.
